Loveday 4X4 Adventure Park

To celebrate the beginning of school holidays, we packed up Bessy and headed towards the river for a fun filled weekend of adventuring and off-roading.

We spent Friday night at a secluded little section of the river at Overland Corner. We set up camp, lit a fire and set in for the night. After a chilly night, we woke up to warm sunny morning and the sounds of river birds. We got to test out our new Wanderer cooker and made ourselves some coffee and breakfast.

After cleaning the breakfast dishes and packing up camp, we drove half an hour South East to Loveday 4x4 Adventure Park and met up with Mum and Dad. Here the fun really began. It was a $50 entry fee for the day, and it was worth every dollar and more. When you first drive into the park, you continue down till you come across the most adorable, rustic outback style tavern. Not only does the Loveday Tavern look the part but the owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly. We went to pay our entry fee and were given our map and a run down of the park.

Being 4WD newbies, we came across the first obstacle, got out of the car to have a suss and in the meantime, Dad had just flexed it straight over the hill without any hesitation in his Mazda BT50. We figured if he could do it, Bessy had it in the bag. After that there were no hesitations and Bessy loved every challenge thrown at her.

By far, the best obstacle on the course was ‘Hell Hole’! My cheeks ached after that one from all the laughter and adrenaline running through my body. I even had a go driving at one stage, learning the hard way that a run up and speed is necessary and not to ride the clutch on a hill start (sorry Bessy). Along the way, there is plenty to keep you entertained between the obstacles amongst their catchy names and some Aussie fauna and icons hiding in the bush.

After surviving the final hills, we headed back to the tavern for a well deserved lunch and pint. The food was delicious and well-priced. It was great to enjoy a drink around the fire while we watched the commando course event that was on (grateful to be warm by the fire and not covered in mud).

Before heading home, we went back out for one final muck around on the sand hills. This was next level! Being the only two cars on the dunes, we had so much room to skid and slide around. Words cannot describe how much fun this was. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, it’s a must!

Overall, it was such an amazing day! A laidback scenic atmosphere. The park is owned and run by the friendliest people. There’s literally something for everyone. Any obstacles can be easily by passed (of course we completed them all). The tavern has all you need, food, drinks and bathroom facilities. There are multiple campsites throughout the park, either conveniently located near the tavern and amenities or for a more secluded stay, quite a few camp sites stretch the rivers edge. There is a huge grass area and playground for kids to run wild and explore and smaller tracks for buggies and quads.

I cannot wait to go back and spend the weekend camped by the riverbank enjoying another scrumptious BBQ and beer (well cider) by the fire and get the adrenaline pumping on the track.
