Purchasing our HJ60 Landcruiser

We had been looking for the perfect 4WD for months, and when I say perfect, I don't mean shiny and new, I'm talking something with character that will spend the next ten years taking us on adventures throughout Australia.

Me knowing nothing about cars, was just looking for something that caught my eye and stayed within our budget while Rob was very picky on some of the features he wanted. It had to be diesel and manual and a whole heap of other bits and pieces that I didn't understand.

After disagreeing on countless vehicles, he showed me an add on marketplace for a 1984 HJ60 Toyota Landcruiser. I loved the colour and the fact that it came with a lot of added features and he loved that mechanically it had everything he had been looking for.

The only problem was that it was in Brisbane! With us both about to crack under the pressures of stressful jobs and the craziness of 2020, we made the call and booked flights to Brisbane the next day.

After a few hiccups and booking issues, we made it to Brisbane and were fortunate enough to have some amazing friends to stay with over the weekend till we could get to the motor reg the following Monday to get a permit to drive her home.

I would also like to add that we made sure we were safe and followed all Covid safe rules while traveling.

It was love at first sight and all great cars need a name to match. As soon as we got to Brisbane and met her in the metal, Rob came up with the name Bessy Blue and it stuck. We now had a new addition to the family and couldn't wait for all the adventures we were going to have in her, including the first drive back Adelaide.
